Tax Credit Scholarships

Desert Christian is a private school. We do not receive funding from the state. We do our very best to keep the cost of tuition down. All of our expenses are paid by tuition and fundraising.

Since 1997 we in the State of Arizona have been blessed with the Tuition Tax Credit program. In 2015 Arizona’s Tax Credit Law was ranked Number One in the nation by the Center for Education Reform! Tax Credits give Christian parents true “school choice”, making Christian education affordable!

During the 2016-2017 school year 78% of our students received some form of tax credit scholarship funding. 33% of those students were fully funded by tax credit scholarships! Are you taking advantage of this program? Are you redirecting your state taxes to this program?

There are four types of Tax Credit scholarships:

Original Individual - Financial Need Based or Recommended –

  • All K-12 students may apply for these funds
  • This is where you seek donors, develop your donor base, and have the potential to get 100% funding

PLUS/Switcher/Overflow Scholarships – Financial Need Based or Recommended -

  • New students coming from Arizona public school
  • Kindergarten students
  • Dependent of active military parent stationed in Arizona
  • Previous Low-Income Corporate, Displaced/Disabled or PLUS Awards recipients

Low-Income Corporate Scholarships -

  • New students coming from Arizona public school
  • Kindergarten students
  • Dependent of active military parent stationed in Arizona
  • Previous Original, PLUS, Low-Income Corporate, and Displaced/Disabled Award recipients

Displaced/Disabled Scholarships –

  • Children who were fostered or adopted from the Arizona foster care system
  • Children with disabilities with Arizona IEP, MET, or 504 plan

Desert Christian School will be hosting Tuition Tax Credit Workshops once a month. These workshops will explain how to apply for, how to give, and how to raise funds using the Tuition Tax Credit to help pay for private school. This is available for you or someone you know who is interested in this program or would like more information.

The following dates have been scheduled for the 2017-2018 school year. This year Desert will host evening and morning workshop. Please see the lists below for dates and locations. Feel free to bring family and friends. Everyone can benefit from this information.

School Tuition Organizations

There are many STO’s in the state of Arizona. Each have their own application process. We recommend you apply to the following, but you may apply to as many STO’s as you wish. An extensive list is available on the Arizona Department of Revenue website,

Arizona Tuition Connection,

In-House Financial Aid

These funds are dispensed at the discretion of the Desert Christian School's Headmaster. They are generally reserved for families who are facing a temporary financial difficulty and are not guaranteed from year to year.

Procedure to apply for Financial Aid:

  • Letter of Request providing the rationale for financial aid.
  • Most recent federal and state tax returns.
  • Bank statements for the previous 3 months (from date of request).
  • Household budget detailing monthly income and expenses.
  • Evidence that the AZ Tax-Credit opportunities have been maximized.

Two final things to remember:

  1. Once all of the above materials are submitted a personal meeting with the Headmaster will take place before there is a final decision.
  2. Financial Aid is granted on a yearly basis and request must be submitted annually or as needed.
