Beliefs and Missions
It is the purpose of Desert Christian Schools to:
Provide and maintain an independent, inter-denominational, parent-sponsored and board directed Christian school system on the east side of Tucson.
Aid parents in their God-given responsibility to train their children “in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4; Deuteronomy 6:4-6)
Offer a rigorous traditional liberal arts education, which emphasizes the Lordship of Christ in the totality of life; values truth, goodness, and beauty as embodied in the western Judeo-Christian heritage; teaches the skills of thinking, communicating, and relating (Colossians 3:23; 1 Corinthians 10:26; Acts 7:22)
Promote a personal trust in Jesus Christ for the ultimate purpose of glorifying God through a life of service and obedience (Psalm 3:5,6; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Mark 10:43-45)
As humans, we cannot guarantee a person’s salvation. We can however provide an environment which promotes Christ.
It is our desire that our students will:
Have a personal trust in Jesus Christ for the ultimate purpose of glorifying God through a life of service and obedience. (Psalm 3:5,6 , I Corinthians 10:31, Mark 10:43-45).
Critically evaluate their faith in Jesus Christ and have made it their own. (Romans 12:1-2, II Corinthians 13:5)
Have a biblical view of who God is and how he deals with mankind. (Proverbs 9:10)
SAFETY- Spiritually, socially and physically safe environment.
In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, O Lord, make me to dwell in safety. (Psalms 4:8)
HONOR- Treating every person with dignity and respect
Giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ(Ephesians 5:20)
Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she [a]respects her husband.(5:33)
INTEGRITY- Truth and honesty in all interactions
Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being, And in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom. (Psalms 51:6)
Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body. (Ephesians 4:25)
LOVE - Seeking the best for others
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. (John 13:34, 35)
Desert Christian Schools recognizes Jesus Christ as the author, revealer, and sustainer of reality. There is nothing over which Christ is not Lord! Therefore, we believe that there is a distinct way of observing and understanding all things truly, from a Christian (biblical) world view.
“In [Christ] are hidden all treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Colossians 2:3
Desert Christian Schools is an independent, parent-sponsored school system in which parents are free to exercise authority over, and responsibility for, their children’s education without interference. Teachers are free to teach truth as truth. Students are free to pursue truth, wisdom, and knowledge openly and without relativistic distortion.
“See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.” Colossians 2:8
Desert Christian Schools serves the public good by producing students who are citizens living, working, and acting in the public realm. We aim to help students grow in their responsibilities and duties as citizens to become a source of leadership and service to their neighborhoods, communities, and nation.
We believe the Bible (the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments) to be the inspired, the only infallible and sole authortative Word of God; revealing God’s being and His purpose for creation and man.
God’s Word is Truth. All learning must have an integrative relationship with God'sWord. “All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, Rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16
We believe that everything that has being, outside of God Himself, was brought into existence and is sustained in existence by God. Everything that exists in the universe (visible or invisible) was created by God out of nothing, by His spoken Word and for His own glory.
All subject matters of education must teach that our Triune God is the source of all creation and that what He created was very good. Man was uniquely created to have a personal relationship with God and to glorify Him in everything he does. “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” I Corinthians 10:31
We believe that there is one Triune God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, co-equal and co-substantial in their divine nature, power and glory.
The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit reveal God. Learning must avail itself to this revelation. God's specific revelation must always take precedence over man's reason.
We believe that there is a hierarchy in the Trinity that does not violate each person’s equality. The Father, the first person of the Trinity, determines and decrees. The Father in eternity past decreed that He would send His one and only Son to be the Redeemer of His people.
The Father provides justification, adoption, sanctification and glorification of all believers. “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God — children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.” John 1:12
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His many miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood on the cross, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His future personal return in power and glory.
Jesus Christ is our Redeemer and with His atoning sacrifice on the cross, has turned away God’s wrath against believers and has reconciled believers to God. “Salvation is found in no one else for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
We believe in the necessity of regeneration (being “Born Again”) by the Holy Spirit in order for a lost and sinful man to receive salvation by coming to Christ in faith and repentance.
God has acted sovereignly to remedy man’s hopeless sinful condition. Salvation is totally a work of God’s grace and mercy, received through faith in Christ alone and not a result of human effort, will or merit. “For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith – and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
We believe the Holy Spirit indwells Christians and empowers them for a life of service to God.
The indwelt Holy Spirit teaches and guides a believer into learned truth. It is He who teaches what is good and what is evil so that it is possible for a Christian to seek after Christ and to glorify God in all he or she does. “Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?” I Corinthians 3:16
We believe in the resurrection of all people at Christ’s second coming. People are either saved into eternal communion with God, or they are lost into eternal separation from God.
Education must teach students how to live life on earth knowing with assurance that true believers will inherit eternal life. “Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit who is a deposit, guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession – to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians 1:13b-14
We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
The universal Christian church is a spiritual body made up of all believers in Christ, regardless of denominational differences. “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” Galatians 3:28-29.
We believe that Christians are called and commissioned by God to go into the world and share the “good news” of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
A part of the mission of DCS is that students be academically prepared to impact their world for Christ. “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are inspired by God and inerrant in the original writings, and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and conduct.
Accordingly, based on Scripture we believe:
In one eternal supreme being, God. He is infinite, but personal.
The Bible (the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments) is God's special revelation to man.
Everything that has being, outside of God Himself, was brought into existence and is sustained in existence by God.
That Jesus Christ, the second person of the trinity, is Himself God. Christ, as God incarnate, possessed a human nature, though sinless, while simultaneously existing as divine.
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead.
Man, male and female, is God's special creation, uniquely designed to relate to God and to glorify Him.
God has acted sovereignly to remedy man's hopeless condition.
The universal Christian church is a spiritual body made up of all believers in Christ, regardless of denominational differences.
We believe that deriving practical applications from and modeling God’s Word are essential to completing our mission.
Accordingly, we believe:
That a Christian faith-based education is essential to the achievement of our mission
That Christian schools exist to support parents and the church in fulfilling the parents’ biblical responsibility to educate children
That teaching God’s Word, and teaching how to apply God’s Word, is essential to education
All truth is God’s truth
It is important to have knowledge of and appreciation for the attributes of God
The work of the Holy Spirit is essential
Prayer is vital
Every individual is of value; all are uniquely created in the image of God.
A personal relationship with Christ is essential
That every aspect of curriculum should be integrated with God’s Word, including teaching on:
The natural world
Human history and God's activity in it
Humanity, its cultures, and how we are to live in the world
That a biblically consistent education must be modeled as well as taught. Therefore, all faculty, staff, administration, Board members and volunteers shall:
Be born-again Christians who model Christ
Strive for excellence
Demonstrate a servant’s heart
Serve in harmony
Engage only in activities consistent with biblical truth
Desert Christian Schools is a covenant school partnering with Christian parents who desire to see their children raised up “…in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:4) While the school recognizes that not all Desert Christian Schools students have personally trusted Christ, there is still a long-term benefit of receiving a Christ-centered education.
The first step in true discipleship is deciding to follow Jesus by giving one's heart and life to Him. (Matthew 6:33)
While that decision is the first step, it is not the only step, nor the last step in one's walk with Jesus. At Desert Christian Schools, it is our desire to see each student continue the life-long journey of learning to follow Christ in wisdom (Scriptures) and revelation (Spirit) and to view all of life from God’s perspective.
Learning to see and act in the world from God's perspective is not something that happens overnight. While learning to think and act as a Christian comes neither quickly nor easily, it is what God expects of each of His children. Desert Christian Schools is in this for the long haul.
Jesus is Lord over every area of life. When one tries to understand any area of life without acknowledging His Lordship, it does not make any sense. The Bible is very clear on that:
- Psalm 24:1 “The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world and all who live in it."
- Colossians 2:3 “In Christ...are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."
- Romans 11:36 “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever."
- Proverbs 2:6 “For the Lord gives wisdom, and from His mouth come knowledge and understanding."
At Desert Christian Schools, we are going to teach truth, pray God reveal truth to our kids and model grace in our relationships with one another, or more simply said; teach the truth in an atmosphere of grace. (1 Thessalonians 2:7, 8,11,12)
